About Us

Cumberland Academy of Georgia was founded by Debbi Scarborough, a mother seeking a suitable school for her son with ASD, expanding to support children with ADHD, and other learning differences. Since 2007, it has attracted students from Atlanta and beyond, offering a college prep classes while integrating social and life skills into the curriculum to help students interpret social cues and practice appropriate social behaviors.

While at Cumberland, students enjoy art, physical education, music, experiential outings & overnight field trips, culinary, social, and life skills classes. Students are encouraged to participate in no cut after-school sports and activities. Cumberland has basketball players, track stars and cross country participants. Many of these students have never participated in a sport before coming to Cumberland!

Cumberland Academy of Georgia is fully accredited by one of the more rigorous accreditation organizations, COGNIA/GISA and GAC. Teachers utilize the Georgia Performance Standards Common Core as the basis for the curriculum.
